Cholester-lowering Mechanism in Germinated brown Rice

By Aki Tsukioka, JCNNApr 7, 2005

Tokyo (JCNN) - FANCL announced on April 6 that the company has confirmed a mechanism in which germinated brown rice lowers the level of blood cholesterol. In collaboration with the Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology, FANCL conducted mice experiments. The experiment results showed that an intake of germinated brown rice enhances the biosynthesis of bile acid using cholesterol, and promotes fecal steroid excretion including bile acid. Based on these findings, the joint research group has concluded that, by eliminating excess cholesterol, germinated brown rice helps lower the level of blood cholesterol. Detailed research results were presented at the Annual Meeting of Japan Society for Bioscience, Biotechnology, and Agrochemistry 2005 held in Sapporo, on March 30.

Study Shows Special Protein May Checkmate Cholesterol

"World champion chess player Gary Kasparov noted that chess computers look at millions of positions per second, weighing each one to find the mathematically best moves. And yet a human, seeing just two or three positions per second, but guided by intuition and experience, is able to compete with the mighty machines. Such is the story behind ImmunoLin(R), an immunoglobulin protein isolate, developed by Proliant Health Ingredients based here, that reduced cholesterol in a new study to be published in the April issue of the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition."
